Balance video audio and lower music during speech

Balance original sound and added audio in PromptFy. Use clip volume, mute, fades, and speech-aware lowering to keep your explanation audible.

How the tool works

The mixer separates the original sound level from each added sound. You can also mute or adjust individual video takes and listen to an added sound on its own. Lower on speech uses recognized word intervals to reduce background sound while speech is present; it needs caption words to know where the speech occurs.

Build it step by step

Open the timeline menu and Mixer for a project-wide overview. Use the selected sound’s controls when you need to adjust its timing or speech-aware behavior.

  • Play a passage where the original recording and an added sound overlap.
  • Adjust Original sound and each added sound until the words remain easy to follow.
  • Mute a source temporarily to identify which sound is competing with the voice.
  • For background audio, enable Lower on speech only after the relevant speech has caption words.
  • Review entrances, exits, and silent intervals, then listen to the full project at an ordinary playback volume.

An example to adapt

Illustrative exercise: place a music bed underneath a spoken tutorial. First lower its general volume until it supports the voice; then compare speech-aware lowering during the instructions and the pauses.

Do not judge the mix only from the loud opening sentence. Check a quiet sentence, the second video’s speech if present, and the end of the music so the balance works throughout the project.

Check before finishing

Speech-aware lowering follows recognized word intervals rather than measuring every audible sound. Muted added speech does not supply speech intervals, and an audio clip does not lower itself because of its own words. This ordinary project mixer is separate from mixing detected sound categories within one source.

The timeline editor requires Starter or above. Check the app for current feature access and purchase options before planning your edit.

Frequently asked questions

Can I change one video take’s volume?

Yes. Select the take and adjust its volume or mute it independently.

Does lowering need captions?

Automatic speech intervals need recognized caption words; manual volume does not depend on transcription.

Where do I edit fades and trims?

Use the selected added sound’s controls. Mixer provides the overview of source levels.
