Narration in the editor
Record narration directly on your video timeline
Record narration from the cursor in PromptFy, follow your script, listen before accepting, and choose whether to replace the original sound.
How the tool works
Record narration from the cursor with a countdown, the project preview, and your script. Listen, redo, or accept the recording, and choose to replace the original sound during that interval. Without headphones, the preview is muted during narration to avoid feeding playback into the microphone.
Build it step by step
Finish the rough picture order first and place the cursor where the new explanation should begin. Prepare a short script that matches the visible action.
- Open Add audio and choose Record narration from the intended cursor position.
- Check the microphone and headphone setup, then use the countdown to prepare your delivery.
- Read at a comfortable pace while watching the demonstration; scroll the script manually if needed.
- Listen to the take, redo an awkward sentence, and accept only the recording you want to keep.
- Review Replace original for that interval, then generate captions for the accepted narration if useful.
An example to adapt
Illustrative exercise: a demonstration shows three steps, but the original explanation skips the second one. Start narration just before that step and write a sentence that describes the action as it appears.
Listen to the transition from the original voice into the new recording. Matching the microphone distance and room sound can make the change less distracting, even when the new wording is clearer.
Check before finishing
Only an accepted take is added to the timeline. Without headphones, the preview is muted during recording to avoid feeding its sound into the microphone. Replacing original sound affects the narrated interval, so check whether it also removes useful room sound or another spoken explanation.
The timeline editor requires Starter or above. Check the app for current feature access and purchase options before planning your edit.
Frequently asked questions
Can I listen before adding the take?
Yes. Listen, redo, or accept the narration after recording; the draft does not become a clip until accepted.
Can I keep the original audio underneath?
Use the narration clip’s Replace original control to choose whether the original sound remains during that interval.
Can the narration have its own captions?
Yes. Generate captions for the accepted added sound and review its text and placement.
