Editing by spoken words
Cut video and audio by selecting transcript words
Select spoken words to cut a passage in PromptFy. Learn how transcript edits affect video takes, added audio, and a second video track.
How the tool works
The Transcript tool lets you select a passage by its words and cut it. Words from a video take cut that video; words from an added sound cut that sound; words from Video 2 cut that second clip. A selection spanning different sources needs to be handled separately. Review automatic recognition and the resulting edit before export.
Build it step by step
Generate and review caption words for the relevant source first. Open Transcript and read the passage alongside playback before selecting a range.
- Tap the first word and then the last word of the passage you want to remove.
- Confirm that the selection belongs to one source; a mixed-source selection needs separate edits.
- Cut the selection and listen to the join, including the pause before the next remaining word.
- Clear the selection before choosing a different sentence so you can see the new range clearly.
- Use undo for an overaggressive cut and finish the transcript session after reviewing the result.
An example to adapt
Illustrative exercise: the speaker says the same instruction twice, with a long pause before continuing. Select the repeated instruction rather than guessing its boundaries from the picture alone.
After cutting, listen to the last retained word and the next sentence together. Keep a natural transition: removing every small hesitation can make a useful explanation sound rushed.
Check before finishing
Words from different sources cannot be removed as one mixed selection. A cut from added audio affects that sound, not the picture; a cut from Video 2 affects the secondary clip. Review other tracks after a main-video cut because they keep their own project positions.
The timeline editor requires Starter or above. Check the app for current feature access and purchase options before planning your edit.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need recognized words first?
Yes. Transcript editing needs caption words from the video or an audible added sound.
Does correcting a caption cut the video?
No. Editing caption text and using Cut in the transcript are different actions.
Can I undo a transcript cut?
Yes. Transcript cuts are ordinary undoable edits; review the session before completing it.
