Project storage
Free space used by unused imported video and audio
Review project media sizes in PromptFy and free unused imported files. Understand storage warnings and why deleting a project differs from deleting a source.
How the tool works
Imported videos and sounds are copied into app storage. Removing their clips from one project does not necessarily make the copies unused: another project or the current editing session may still refer to them. The Library reports the available unused-media total when it can safely offer cleanup.
Free up space removes eligible unused imported media. Automatic collection can also remove unused imports older than a day during a fresh app launch. Recent files, project references, and the editing session’s undo resources are protected by the storage rules.
Build it step by step
Open Library → Projects and review media sizes before importing a large batch. Save your current work and close the video editor before using the cleanup action.
- Check which projects account for the media you are keeping and whether their sources are still needed.
- Remove unwanted imported clips from projects only after deciding that the footage will not be used there.
- Close open video screens so cleanup does not interfere with an active editing session.
- Review the unused-media amount shown by the Library and use Free up space when enabled.
- Return to the intended project and confirm its picture and sound before importing more files.
An example to adapt
Illustrative exercise: you imported three alternate screen captures and kept only one in the final demonstration. After finishing the edit, visit Projects and inspect whether the other copies are eligible for cleanup.
Do not delete the final recording just to remove unused imports. Keep the source you still need and let the app distinguish referenced project media from eligible abandoned copies.
Check before finishing
Deleting a project preserves source recordings, while deleting a recording affects projects that use it. Cleanup is disabled while a video screen is open. A low-storage notice does not mean that every file is disposable, and the camera warning does not itself block recording.
Frequently asked questions
Does cleanup erase all my gallery videos?
No. It targets eligible unused media imported into the app, not the entire Photos library.
Why is Free up space disabled?
An open video screen prevents cleanup so current editing resources remain available.
Does deleting a project remove its recordings?
No. Project deletion and source-recording deletion are separate actions with different effects.
